“From less then 20 hours of study I went to number one ranking and went to take my FCC tests. I scored an almost perfect score of one error out of 120 in elements 2,3, and 4. I now must get to element 1 Morse Code to get the Extra class License.” — Karl Chang

“23 Feb 07 - Passed General. Score: 97% w/10 hours study time. I have found that the techniques used by your site make learning the appropriate material very easy. I tried reading books and just going over the test questions... They are good for review, but second only to classroom instruction, your site makes learning or refreshing about as easy as it can be. The only thing one needs to learn is to be dedicated enough to put in the time and focus on the topics as they go thru the study portion. The technique used couldn't be much more effective or simple to use. I had quite a bit of an electronics base from high and tech school, but have been out of the technician field since the early 80's. I studied about 10 hours for my Element 3 test and passed it missing only 1 question. I plan to test for my Element 4 on the 19th of March, which will be a month or less after purchasing my subscription. I average between 1 and 4 hours per day (total) of study time, and even skip a day occasionally depending on the time I have available to study. I plan to return to the site even after I pass my Element 4 just to finish the ‘course’ and keep things fresh in my mind at least until my subscription expires or until I reach 100% on all levels.” — Les, KB0PDX
-
“I just wanted to let you know the final results of my Extra exam... Sadly, I only missed one question out of 50. :( (insert BIG grin here)” — 73, Jed, KE7FDT, (soon to be AD7Kx)
-
“Passed extra exam 09/16/06.” — 73's Bob, W7TSS

“After using www.hamtestonline.com I gained the confidence and knowledge to prepare for the real thing, went to the local amateur radio club testing site, and was amazed that I was able to cruise thru the exam in a very short period of time, passing at my very first attempt at the tech class at an amazing ‘97%.’ I can only say thanks for such a wonderful service. I am now on my way to my dream of being a licensed amateur radio operator. I am just waiting for my call to be issued so I can begin experiencing what I have waited so long to enjoy.” — Dean

“I passed my element 3 exam on the first try!
I can't even begin to say how helpful HamTestOnline was in studying for the test. I took the route of basically memorizing the questions, I did not buy any books to explain the theory, but I did study using a book for my Technician license back in 1992, so I was familiar with the basic electrical components and antenna designs mentioned in the the questions. HamTestOnline lets you select which test pool (Technician, General, Extra) you want to study and further it allows you to select subsections as well. I was having a heck of a time memorizing the privileges on each band and the band plans, so I just turned off those parts. I basically didn’t study them at all. On my test there was only question from this section and I just skipped it.
The element 3 (General written) test is multiple choice, 35 questions and you need to get 26 right in order to pass. I don’t know how many I missed, but there were 6 questions I wasn’t 99.99% sure about including the one I skipped, so I had a buffer of 3 more I could miss. If you decided to use HamTestOnline as a comparison, I got to a 76% rate on the New General questions and an overall ranking of 87. My total hours was 12:19. I’m not sure sure how they calculate that to be honest.
Finally, you can definitely do this there’s no reason to pay for SSB when you can easily get your HAM license! While it may be sacrilegious to say this, you don’t need to be an electronics guru or a ham radio wonk to use the Nets and mail programs like WinLink. What you do need to do is jump through the hoops (license) and then get someone to help you get setup (aka the place you’re going to buy your radio from!)”
